ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A) Advantages of mulching to the tree.

1. Moisture Retention:

Mulching helps the soil retain moisture by reducing evaporation. This is particularly beneficial during dry periods, ensuring trees have a consistent water supply.

2. Weed Suppression:

A layer of mulch inhibits weed growth by blocking sunlight. This reduces competition for nutrients and water between trees and weeds.

3. Temperature Regulation:

Mulch acts as an insulating layer, protecting tree roots from extreme temperatures. It keeps the soil cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

4. Soil Improvement:

As organic mulch decomposes, it adds organic matter to the soil, enhancing its structure, nutrient content, and microbial activity.

5. Erosion Prevention:

Mulch helps prevent soil erosion by reducing the impact of rain and wind on the soil surface.

6. Aesthetic Appeal:

Mulch can improve the visual appeal of a landscape, providing a uniform and tidy appearance around trees.

7. Pest and Disease Reduction:

Some types of mulching, like cedar or pine bark, can repel certain pests. Mulch also prevents soil from splashing onto leaves, reducing the spread of soil-borne diseases.

8. Root Health:

Mulching encourages deeper root growth by maintaining a more consistent soil environment, promoting healthier and more resilient trees.

9. Nutrient Supply:

Organic mulches gradually break down, providing a slow-release source of nutrients to the tree and surrounding plants.
